Scribemind #CreateItForward Challenge: April Poetry Challenge

You + me + April = 30 days of poetry.

Join me for the second Scribemind #CreateItForward Challenge of 2020: April Poetry Challenge. Here in the United States, April is National Poetry Month, and I personally think that spring is such a nice time for writing poems! But no matter the season or country you’re in, we’re in the midst of a pandemic and there’s never been a better time to write without pressure and let poetry capture our dreamiest, abstract thoughts.

How to Participate

There are two ways you can participate in this challenge:

  1. Write a short poem every day.

  2. Write one line of a poem each day and develop your poem over the course of the month.

You can write poems that follow traditional poetry structure (here’s a good overview!) or just free write! As with all Create It Forward challenges, this is a no-pressure writing challenge intended to be fun and stimulating.

Sign up here to get your starting kit, including 30 days worth of prompts, a desktop wallpaper, and a form-fillable PDF that you can use as your booklet. This challenge is completely free and there are no strings attached — this is just one of several challenges I have planned for this year that I hope will excite, inspire, and motivate you to create.

We start on April 1st. No cheating and starting early! ;) Let’s do this together.

The Academy of American Poets hosts National Poetry Month every year and always creates a beautiful poster. The 2009 poster remains my all-time favorite, and quotes my all-time favorite poem, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” by T.S. Eliot (whose work I’ve loved since I was a young teenager).
